On This Page

HikeDesert started because most desert hiking content online is either too cautious to be useful or too reckless to be safe. There’s a lot of “bring sunscreen and water” without any of the specifics that actually matter — how much water per mile at a given temperature, which trails have reliable shade, what “moderately strenuous” really means on a 102°F July morning.

We’re based in Tucson, Arizona. Most of our trail coverage starts in the Sonoran Desert because that’s where we hike. We’ve logged hundreds of miles across Saguaro National Park East and West, Sabino Canyon, the Santa Catalinas, and the Superstition Mountains. We hike in summer. That part matters.

Editorial Standards

Every trail guide uses original photos from our own hikes. We note the date we last hiked a trail because conditions change — washed-out roads, seasonal closures, bloom cycles. If something is out of date, the date stamp tells you.

Gear reviews reflect actual use. We buy most of our gear or borrow it from people who do. When a manufacturer sends review samples, we say so.

We do use affiliate links. Our full disclosure is here.
